Every year, my job requires me to work on a Saturday for Welcoming Weekend for the new incoming students along with their parents. For the past three years, it has been the same-smile, give great customer service, eat a subway sandwich, finish up last minute payments, and head off to home. This year was quite different. Yesterday after 4 - 5 hours of work, I was starting to feel my back aching and my stomach cramping. At first I thought it was the peppercinis or the vinegar in my subway sandwich that was unsettling my stomach. Tried going to the restroom, but no matter what I did, these cramps weren’t going away. Finally, I walked back to work, told my other student worker to take care of the front while I just try to relax in the back. After ten minutes have passed, there wasn’t too much change. The pain/discomfort would subside, but it would come back with the same intensity. My boss told me to go to the doctor’s to just check myself in JUST in case. I called Jason, and although he sounded scared, he remained cool and composed. Kudos to him because Aubrey was crying in the background. My boss told me to not even walk out to the front, but that she would stroll me out with the rolling computer chair. I was a bit embarrassed, but was laughing at the fact that my boss was pushing me out. It was a very sweet act, and it gave me something to laugh about. When Jason arrived, we headed towards the doctor’s and got there in 15 minutes. Checked in and was strapped up to the contraction machine. I was definitely having contractions, but it wasn’t too intense. However, doctor told me that having contractions this early in pregnancy is not normal. He also said that if I was dilated, I would have to be admitted for delivery that day. But after he checked and saw that I wasn’t dilated, I was released from the hospital. Told me to take it easy by not lifting anything heavy, carrying Aubrey for a week, and just trying to relax and to drink lots of fluids. Jason told me that I can’t go for the strongest woman training anymore and commanded me to stop weight lifting. Ha! So far, I had a little contraction this morning, but I need to try to lay low in house work, even though my nesting self is wanting to mop the floor, clean the sink, etc etc. This has been an interesting pregnancy, but so far, so good. Until the next adventure…adieu!
